Description
Rowella Cottage at Hockadays has been converted from a 17th century barn, which was used for farming purposes until 1986. It is situated at Tregenna, an attractive hamlet of some six properties. The village of Blisland is half a mile away and has a well stocked shop, internet cafe and post office.
Rowella Cottage is ideal for couples and combines comfort with all the original character of the building, including open beams, wooden lintels, small paned windows and cottage doors.
The cottage has a sitting room, separate kitchen, double bedroom and bathroom. The sitting room and kitchen are on the first floor with the bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor. Furnishings are in cottage style and there are wall lights, prints and a digital freeview television with inbuilt DVD/CD player. Wi-fi is also available. There are loose rugs over a varnished wooden floor.
The fitted kitchen has a full size cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, spin dryer, kettle, toaster, ironing board and iron. There is a plentiful supply of cooking and serving utensils, wine and spirit glasses, matching dinner and tea service.
The bedroom has fitted carpeting and all bed linen is supplied at no extra cost - cotton sheets and pillowcases - and the bed is made up ready for your arrival.
The bathroom has a bath with overhead shower. The immersion heater supplies hot water to the bathroom and kitchen.
Storage heating is available on request.
Blisland village is one of the most picturesque in Cornwall with a village shop and post office and the Blisland Inn. The village green, the only one in the county, is flanked by Blisland church which is mentioned in the writings of Sir John Betjeman.
Rowella Cottage is well situated for walking, touring and visits to the beaches. On remote Bodmin Moor and surrounding it are many charming villages and hamlets, such as Alternun, Advent and St. Tudy (birthplace of Captain Bligh of' 'Bounty' fame). The well known hostelry 'Jamaica Inn' is at Bolventor.
The North Cornwall coast is renowned for its impressive cliffs and short steep valleys leading to sandy coves and bays. There are excellent large beaches at Trebarwith, Polzeath and Daymer Bay and a particularly splendid beach at Tregardock, south of Tintagel. The coastal footpath is protected by the National Trust over long stretches at Port Isaac, Polzeath and Tintagel.
Visits can be made to Pencarrow, a large Georgian house still privately owned or Lanhydrock House, a 17th century manor house owned by the National Trust. You may also wish to visit Tintagel Castle romantically associated with King Arthur.
The Eden Project is within easy distance.
The nearby Camel Trail has replaced the old railway line as far as Padstow and provides a quiet and scenic route for walking and cycling.

North Cornwall
Wilder and more rugged than the south of the county, North Cornwall is a land of
tall headlands, sandy beaches and empty moorland – yours to explore from one of
our holiday cottages in North Cornwall. The busy resort of Newquay is a major attraction,
with its glorious beaches and fantastic conditions for surfers. Nearby Perranporth
also boasts some fantastic beaches, perfect for sun-lovers. You’ll find many more
lovely beaches, like those at Bude for example, waiting for you on one of our North
Cornwall cottage holidays. This part of Cornwall has become a bit of a mecca for
food lovers too. Rick Stein has put Padstow on the map and more chefs, including
Jamie Oliver, are joining him, attracted by the quality of the ingredients available
locally. Then there is St. Ives, long a haunt of artists drawn here by the wonderful
light and inspiring scenery. A cottage holiday in North Cornwall puts you in touch
with history from ancient celtic times to the days of the smugglers. Tintagel Castle,
rumoured to be the birthplace of King Arthur, sits high on a cliff and still has
a strange air of mystery about it.
South Cornwall
Wonderful scenery, a mild climate, sparkling blue seas and charming seaside villages
make South Cornwall a firm favourite for cottage holidays whatever the season. And
we have a fabulous choice of holiday cottages in South Cornwall from which to make
the most of this lovely part of the country. The Cornish Riviera takes in some of
South Cornwall’s most popular resorts and many of our holiday cottages in South
Cornwall are located nearby. Picturesque Fowey is a haven for sailors, while the
Roseland Peninsula is a noted beauty spot. Mevagissey, St. Mawes and St. Just are
all well worth a visit. Not to be missed is the Eden Project, a fascinating recreation
of different biospheres, featuring a wide variety of exotic plantlife. You should
also make time for a trip to atmospheric St. Michael’s Mount and on to Land’s End,
the most westerly point in England. The county town of Truro has a lovely cathedral
and some excellent shopping opportunities, while Penzance is a bustling resort,
famed for its warm weather and sub-tropical plants. And do make sure you sample
the pasties, saffron cake and clotted cream – all local delicacies, – during your
cottage holiday.
